Salah On A Plane

QA-ID-0030

QUESTION

My question is, if we perform fard salah on a plane, sitting and facing the direction of the plane, will it count?

ANSWER

If a plane is flying, then any salāh performed during the flight while facing the qiblah and standing is considered complete and does not need to be repeated.

However, if a person prays while seated on their seat for any reason, they must repeat the prayer after landing because one of the conditions for salāh (standing) was not fulfilled, and the reason for this was a restriction caused by a person (flight staff preventing standing elsewhere in the plane). Any restriction imposed by a human (min jihatil ‘ibād) that prevents fulfilling the conditions of salāh necessitates repeating the salāh.
