Does the Imam Who Leads Isha Have to be The Same as The One Who Leads Witr?

QA-ID-0094
QUESTION
Does the Imam who leads the fard of Isha have to be the same person who leads the witr prayer?

ANSWER

It is not necessary for the same imām who leads the farḍ of ʿIshāʾ to also lead the Witr prayer. Another person may lead it, provided that he has prayed ʿIshāʾ in congregation and not alone (al-Fatāwā al-Hindiyyah; Radd al-Muḥtār; Bahār-e-Sharīʿah).
