Colour Of The Shroud (Kafan)

QA-ID-0065

QUESTION

Does a kafan for the person who had passed away have to be white?

ANSWER

It is recommended to use a white shroud (kafan) as mentioned in the hadīth, though it is not obligatory. If a different color is chosen, it is still acceptable.

《 Wear white clothing, for it is among the best of your clothes, and shroud your deceased in it 》[Tirmidhī 994]
