QUESTION
If I am a traveller and the salah time has begun and before the salah time ends, I am back home, do I have to pray qasar or full rakats?
ANSWER
﷽
If you are a traveller who has not yet prayed a particular salāh, and then you return home or intend to stay in one place for 15 days or more, you will pray the full salāh instead of shortening it (qasr). For example, if you were travelling at the time of zuhr but return home before zuhr ends, you will pray the full four rakʿāt for zuhr.
The determining factor for whether a person prays the full salāh or shortens it depends on their status at the end of the salāh time. If they are still a traveller at the end of the salāh time, they must shorten the prayer. However, if they are a resident at the end of the salāh time, they must pray the full salāh (Radd al-Muhtār 2/131).
