Doing Salam With The Imam When A Person Has Missed Rakʿats

QA-ID-0058

QUESTION

If I’m in a jamaat and I missed a rakaat but did salaam with the imaam, what should I do please?

ANSWER

If an individual misses a rakʿāt or some rakʿāts with the Imām and accidentally does salām when the Imām does, he will stand up and perform the missed rakʿāt(s) as usual. He will then perform the sajdah of sahw at the end.

If someone does salām at the exact moment as the Imām, without any delay, sajdah of sahw is not required. However, this is rare and unlikely.
