QUESTION
If breast milk is pumped and given in a bottle to a child will it establish foster relations? Is even one teaspoon enough?
ANSWER
﷽
If breast milk is pumped into a bottle and then given to a child that is younger than 2.5 lunar years, the foster relationship (milk kinship) will be established. It is not necessary for the milk to be consumed directly from the breast; it can be given by any other method and the foster relationship will be established.
One teaspoon is sufficient to establish this foster relationship.
Once this relationship is established, the woman becomes the child’s foster mother and her other children become the child’s foster siblings, making marriage between them impermissible.
